We will also send you some reading to help you start to understand the Native American belief system and ways of life which will help in connecting deeper to this experience.

Remembering Who We Are:

We are honored and proud to share this experience with you as we invite and welcome friends from all traditions and paths to join us on this journey. Most spiritual journeys are about learning new tools or skills that help us live a balanced and harmonious life; this journey is similar, you will learn new skills and tools for living your life. However the core of Lakotah spirituality has a depth that is not commonly shared or understood in many other belief systems.

The Lakotah’s beliefs contain at their core a beauty of Oneness, Connecting and Sharing that is unlike what we have witnessed before. Oneness is the essence of life, and the Lakotah people understand this to mean everything in the natural world. Spirit is present animating and Connecting everything, everyone, everywhere. You are one with the vast expanse of the universe itself. Our journey is to remember our essence.

Each ceremony, story and ritual has been gifted by spirit and used across generations of Lakotah tribal communities. These timeless traditions provide clear pathways by helping us call on spirits at each step to guide us on the journey of remembering who we are - one living with the essence of spirit. Every ceremony and ritual we experience during this time of communal exploration will Connect us with the energy of existence itself. The natural Sharing of our journeys with others in the circle will aid us all by keeping the flow of energies moving in our collectively shared and individual worlds. By articulating into words our experiences with each other, we witness final manifestations of understanding so we can evolve. By sharing with others our gifts of learning from spirit, we have an opportunity to express that which is unconscious into our collective consciousness as well as have an opportunity to verbally commit to becoming well. In this, we release old energies that formerly bound us, and set a new space for ourselves as we move forward expressing life in new forms that exhibit harmony, balance and understanding.

“Remembering who we are” is a journey of harmonizing our consciousness of self with our soul. At birth we are naturally one with all, openly connected and sharing our feelings with everything and everyone around us. As we grew older, journeying across our early years (especially in the modern world) we learned separation. Bit by bit we began disconnecting from the core essence of who we are. Each of the ceremonies and rituals we participate in during this retreat is about “remembering who we are” at the level of our soul and then bringing it forward into our consciousness. Some may call this process learning and growth, others may regard it as being set free to be.

We crafted this tour with the help and support of the Oklevueha Native American church to provide a safe and supportive space of community while weaving the rich tapestry of ancient Native American wisdom and plant medicine. In combining this with the deep journeywork you have come to know, or will experience for the first time, with Blue Morpho International we hope you will enjoy the journey.

Ceremonies:

Vision-Quest 1.jpg

Vision Quest:

Congratulations for listening and feeling the pull to do a Vision Quest. A sacred, time honored rite of passage held dear and sacred to so many cultures around the planet. The Vision Quest opens up the energy channels with Great Spirit as we commune with nature, dig deep, and tap into our highest self. This affords us the precious time to slow down, disconnect from the world so we can hear that inner voice once again and begin to cultivate that relationship moving forward. These ceremonies give us the opportunity to turn changes into sacred initiations -- empowering, humbling, strengthening, and enlightening us.

The Journey:

With preparation, you are readied to physically, psychologically, mentally, and spiritually benefit from the experience of fasting alone in the wilderness under the protection and safety of Great Spirit. The solo experience involves time alone in a natural place (solitude), fasting (emptiness), exposure to the elements (vulnerability), and self-reliance (self-trust). This hero’s journey is about facing your fears, slowing down, connecting deeper to who you are and feeling the energy of creation that we all embody, our life force. During this time you maintain a perimeter of 20’ where you stay in this sacred space and keep your movements basic. This will be a complete fast, meaning without food or water. This is meant to purify you and conserve energy to be used for your spiritual journey. This is also a time for deep reflection, purging the mindless chatter and connecting deeper to yourself and spirit. What comes up for you is a deeply personal journey and along with Great Spirit, our ancestors, and the support of the community back at camp all will help you and give you strength during this part of your journey.

Return:

Upon your return to camp joined by the other Questers, you will have the opportunity to share your personal journey and stories of your time “On the hill”. This is an amazing time; to hear the transformative stories, heart touching connections with self and Great Spirit, challenges, and the new directions and lessons that where shown to you. This is where the guides will challenge you to give your vision practical feet, to live the life and changes you have rightfully claimed as your own!

GrandFather Plant Medicine Ceremony:

All Grandfather Ceremonies are held in the sacred tipi. Grandfather Medicine is said to initiate states of deep contemplation of one's own thoughts, feelings, and sensations as well as promote the receiving of profound insights of a metaphysical or spiritual nature. Feelings of inner tranquility, oneness with life, heightened awareness, and rapid thought flow may be experienced. As we are all unique individuals, everyone will have their own unique experience of the medicine and ceremonies. The experience with the medicine may be accompanied by abounding visual or auditory effects. A mental state is also produced, allowing users a closer connection to their ancestors and the Universe/All That Is/God. We will guide you through the use of medicine songs, music, prayer and journeywork into states of deep healing, growth, transformation, and exploration.

Chanupa Pipe Ceremony:

The pipe ceremony is a sacred blessing and prayer ritual for connecting physical and spiritual worlds. White Deer of Autumn explains the pipe ceremony in this way, "The pipe is a link between the earth and the sky. Nothing is more sacred. The pipe is our prayers in physical form. Smoke becomes our words; it goes out, touches everything, and becomes a part of all there is. The fire in the pipe is the same fire in the sun, which is the source of life." Tobacco and natural herbs are used in the ceremony to connect Mother Earth with Father Sky in the way the tobacco plant's roots go deep into the earth, and its smoke rises high into the heavens.

Sweat Lodge Ceremony:

To Native Americans, the Sweat Lodge symbolizes the womb of Grandmother Earth, and the ceremony is our own rebirth. The heated ancestral Grandfather Stones which are used to bring the heat into the sweat lodge represent Grandmother Earth's body, which supports all life. The fire used to heat the Grandfather Stones represents the light of the world. The sacred fire is the source of all life and power. The leader opens the Sweat Lodge ceremony with words of intent, drum beats, songs, prayers and by the pouring of water over the heated Grandfather Stones which creates steam. Each participant can offer personal prayers for self as well as others, expressions of gratitude or ask for the release of blockages. A Sweat Lodge typically lasts four "doors" or rounds, which honors each of the four directions. Each direction is represented by colors, spirit guides, and different elements. This ceremony is a purification and healing ceremony which brings gratitude and prayer into our lives as well as a shift in our being. This is a sacred rebirth of mind, body, and spirit.

Fire Walk Ceremony:

Directly after the final Sweat Lodge ceremony, we will participate (if you like) in a Sacred Fire Walk. The hot embers of the sacred fire will be spread over the energetic path leading to the sweat lodge. By walking over the embers you continue and deepen the purification process, releasing all the energies you have been working on during the week up to this point. After you "cross over" the fire and complete the walk a bucket of water will be poured over your head cleansing your physical and energetic bodies, as well as helping you ground back into your body. The firewalk is a powerful ceremony which completes the rebirthing process of the Sweat Lodge ceremony.

Breathwork Ceremony:

We will be working with breathwork and Great Spirit to continue our healing with a combination of modern and Native American practices. Deep transformative states of consciousness can be remembered through this work as we guide and support you through releasing aspects of self no longer serving you. We will be calling in all the spirits and Animal Guides you have formed relationships with over the week to help you release as you move into a centered and grounded state of being.

Potlatch Ceremony:

For this ceremony, you will bring a gift to give to someone in the group. The item can be handmade, something sacred or something dear to your heart which you have come to understand is no longer yours. We will share stories of our gifts before placing them on a blanket to be received by those who are called to receive the object you gift. In this way, the gift continues its journey in the receiver's life. In a potlatch ceremony, we experience power comes from what we give away and not what we have accumulated. This is a beautiful way to experience the circular energy of giving and receiving.

Fireside Drum Circle Ceremony:

Our Drum Circle Fire Ceremony will be a celebration of the week as we drum, dance, chant, and connect with each other around the Sacred Fire. Together we will create a space for personal transformation, to manifest your dreams, your prayers, and celebrate life! Drums, rattles, and didgeridoos will be provided for this ceremony. You are invited to bring any sacred instrument you like with you to connect with and play in this time of community.

Shares, Talks, Workshops

Fireside Sharing of Native American Mythology:

On Arrival Night we will open the medicine space and start the journey of Native American Storytelling. These stories are unique energetic teachings in which the ways of the tribe are shared. We will continue to explore this throughout the week as our ideas, thoughts, beliefs, structures, connections, relations and understanding of self continue to grow and expand with each moment.

Sacred Prayer Ties:

We will teach you how to tie Prayer Ties. We will guide you on the significance of the ties as well as how to work with them. Once we complete them, we will wear them throughout the week. Our intent, blessings, and prayers infuse the sacred loose tobacco which we enclose in the heart of each Prayer Tie. This ceremony with the Prayer Ties will deepen our connection with the Great Spirit as we navigate the week. At the end of the retreat, we will conduct a ceremony offering our Prayer Ties to the sacred fire, releasing them to spirit as we complete the work we began at the start of this ceremony.

Animal Guides:

Animal Guides provide guidance, awareness, and insight into our journey throughout the week and beyond. We will be working with the Animal Guides which will be revealed to us and explained during this workshop. As the week unfolds, we will continue to share and unpack the spiritual and energetic messages and teaching our animal guides give us throughout the week. Animal guides reveal themselves with amazing accuracy and profound teachings, adding richness to our journeys and lives. You will bear witness to this transformative energy.

The Greatness I see in You:

In this exercise, we will be individually whispering "the greatness I see in you" into each other's ears. In this experience, we will be giving and receiving verbal recognition of the greatness we have observed in each other from our time spent together throughout the week. These are beautiful moments, touching our heart centers as we uncover feelings and emotions which bond us deeper together. This ceremony is a beautiful and heart-affirming way to bring to a supportive close this fantastic week!
